EMINENT DOMAIN BILL 1156 IS ON GOV. BROWNS DESK!! CALL, EMAIL, BUT STOP THIS BILL!!
REDEVELOPMENT ON STEROIDS BILL IS ON GOVERNOR BROWNS DESK
I am not trying to alarm you because I am running for Temecula City Council. We have a true emergency that has to be addressed now! If we do not stop this bill it will be even harder for us to stop California from taking property from its own citizens.
Private property proponents rejoiced last December when the Supreme Court upheld the Legislature's ability to abolish Redevelopment Agencies in California. We believed that Californians would no longer have to fear that their home, business or place of worship would be seized by local governments in favor of politically connected developers and their harebrained development schemes.
Nine months later, we have come to realize that the Legislature's decision last year was nothing but a farce. In the last week of the Legislative Session, two bills were sent to the Governor that would establish RDA 2.0 in California.
SB 1156, by Senate Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, would allow Cities to establish Sustainable Community Investment Authorities, an Authority that could seize your home or business if it exists within a "Walkable Community" and establish an RDA 2.0. To read more about SB 1156, click here. AB2144, by Speaker John Perez, changes the use and increases the scope of Infrastructure Finance Districts (IFDs). The Alliance has designated these newly redesigned IFDs as a RDA 2.0 because of its ability to abuse the power of eminent domain to benefit connected developers. Click here to read more about AB 2144. I know this is a lot of information but you need to read this bill to understand it.
It is the our strong belief that tax dollars should not be used to finance property seizures that benefit private developers! No one should have to suffer the pains of watching the Government seize their home, business or place of worship in order to build a shopping mall, luxury hotel or a high-rise apartment building - all examples of things that these bills will allow!
TAKE ACTION NOW!!
STOP THIS BILL!!
TELL TEMECULA TO VOTE NO!!
We implore you to contact the Governor and strongly urge him to veto both SB 1156 and AB 2144. These bills bring back the horrors of Redevelopment and cannot become law!
